November 2018 Customer Photo Winner

Does anyone else have a little girl that you are in total envy of this nursery?! I mean this is simply gorgeous! Megan took our Unicorn Horn Two Color Wall Quotes™ Wall Art Decal to the next level and I know her little one will love it for so many years to come.

She got the 22" tall x 24" wide decal in Black with a Gold Horn. Since our decals don't have any background (not even clear), she was able to cut apart the eyelashes and arrange them how she needed to fit the flowers in. And those flowers are just so beautiful! I'm going to have to find out where she got those.

Megan won the $50 in shop credit for our customer photo giveaway this month! Make sure to send in your photos to enter our drawing! Just email us: info@wallquotes.com. Or, tag us @wallquotes on Instagram or @belvederedesigns on Facebook

February 2017 Customer Photo Winner!

Ashley posted a picture of her Home Sweet Home Leaves decal as part of a review on Etsy. I think her display is looking great already and can't wait to see what else she adds to it. She got the 18" tall x 18" wide size in White. This is also a great idea if you want to switch out your decor or use it seasonally - put it on a chalkboard like Ashley did so you can move it around your home.

She said:
"My display is not yet done! But I love this decal - it was super easy to install and looks like I bought this decal on my chalk board! Love love love it! Thanks so much!"

She is winning our $50 credit for this month! Who will be March's winner? Don't forget to submit your own photo of your new decal in action for the chance to winTag us @wallquotes on Instagram or @belvederedesigns on Facebook, or email them in to info@wallquotes.com

Why Do Quotes Inspire or Motivate Us?

 The Meaning Behind the Meaning

Famous quotations come from all sorts of places, people, and circumstances and cover all kinds of topics and issues. We use them to pick ourselves, to motivate ourselves and others, to express our deepest feelings and best ideas, and to prove a point. Familiar quotes often become mantras we follow for the rest of our lives. They can be powerful and inspiring, moving and motivating. But what is it about them that makes them so reflective of us and our values?

Homonymic Phrases
Homonyms are words with similar pronunciation, but very different meanings (think stalk or left, for example).  A homonymic phrase then is a saying that relies on the double-meaning of an idea or word that then elicits a strong response (often like the punch line of a joke). For example, one of our Office Wall Quotes designs uses this text: “The only place where success comes before work is in a dictionary.” This phrase inspires because it is accurate on multiple levels; success certainly does come before work, “s” definitely occurs before “w” in the dictionary, and no one can be truly successful at anything if they don’t put in the work first. Because these kinds of quotes are a play on words, they stick with us.  And because they also ring true to our known values and ideas, we feel we can apply it to ourselves, creating self-efficacy, or our belief in our own ability to succeed. This also contributes to the quote’s “staying power” and why we continue to remember it.

The Coaching Factor
Sometimes phrases are structured as instructions with a heavy use of verbs. This is especially the case for many of our Sports Wall Quotes designs. When a trainer coaches a team or an individual, he issues commands over and over to push them and to remind them of their goals and the victory that awaits them if they’ll work hard for it. Quotes like “Work. Sweat. Achieve.” and “Don’t limit your challenges, challenge your limits” work because they mimic the coaching experience with strong, imperative verbs.

Primal Instinct Resonation
We humans are aspirational creatures. We want to be the best at what we do and we choose role models and leaders among those who are the best at what they do. Quotes that come from great political leaders and sports figures hold a lot of weight because of their experience.  Their accomplishments and experience have earned them the right to offer advice. Additionally, phrases and sayings attributed to someone with a recognizable name resonates more with us than those that don’t. One of our Sports Wall Quotes designs, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” is pretty inspiring on its own, but it’s even more powerful because it is Wayne Gretzky, an NHL hall of famer, who said it.

Whether it be in a corporate boardroom, kids’ bedroom wall, kitchen, or living room, quotes can motivate and change how we think and how we see the world around us. Vinyl wall decals are one of the very best ways to display those quotes that mean the most to you and your family. They’re affordable, easy to install, and offer a big impact in any room. Choose from our well-curated collections, or design your very own quote at wallquotes.com.

The Positive Effects of Inspirational Quotes

Studies show that surrounding yourself with positivity can improve your mood and motivation. No wonder offices tend to have inspirational posters strung about—they’re attempting to create a productive work environment while keeping their workers happy! At times, examining these spaces can make you wonder—how can I bring this positivity back into my home, without compromising design? How can I have words that encourage me every day, while avoiding the pain of putting up posters and potentially damaging the paint and the walls? And how can I find the poster that fits me, personalized for my situation?

Well there’s a way now! At www.wallquotes.com, you can find wall art that speaks to you. The wall art available on wall quotes is easy to install and will inspire you every day, wherever you may be. The type of quotes available range from faith and scripture, quotes about love, family, and even sports and seasonal! It’s perfect because you can change your quotes each month to match how you’re feeling, inspire yourself to reach a new goal, or align with the holiday season. It creates warmth and engagement in your home—for your friends, your guests, and your kids!

Although there is a huge range of wall art and quotes to choose from, we understand that we may not have the design or quote that fits you perfectly. That’s why we allow you to design your own wall art, or you can work with our professional design team to create the perfect new piece of art for your space! We ensure that the colors are exactly what you expect, the quote is what you hand select, and that your art is representative of you. There’s nothing more exciting than seeing your art come together, especially when you’ll be able to view it every day, wherever you go!

If quotes and inspiring wall art aren’t exactly your thing, but you’re still interested in having art that can be put up without damaging your walls, and can be reused, then we have the perfect item for you. We offer Textstyles ® canvas decals that are repositionable, reusable, and can be printed with any pattern you desire, from a small accent to a full wall mural. We also offer chalkboard decals to leave messages for friends and family! Personalize your space and create your happy place with our easy-to-use wall decals. You can bring life and unique fun to each room in your home, create a crowd-pleasing atmosphere, and overall, continue to inspire yourself day to day.

On Trend: Little Decals, Big Impact

by Raelene

I'm seeing small, repeating patterns of vinyl decals all over the interwebs lately and in some of the funnest, sweetest, trendiest shapes and layouts.  Evenly spaced or randomly placed, these little decals add a big punch, often mimicking the look of wallpaper without (gasp!) all the work and a whole lot more fun.  We did a round-up of gold polka dot walls last week (another big trend) and we've been collecting other polka dot walls on this Pinterest board, but polka dots aren't the only little decals making a big impact.

In fact, we've got quite the collection of decal kits over in the shop, and so thought we'd highlight some of our favorite iterations and inspirations on the blog today.  Check out these fabulous rooms - I just love how the decals end up being the perfect finishing touch for a carefully planned and put together space.  And then - visit the shop to find just the right decal kit for your own space.  Go forth and conquer, friends!

Oh, hearts.  Of course.  This little girl's room, featured on Apartment Therapy, is all kinds of awesome.  I love how all the eclectic elements come together so well.  And the gold hearts just make that statement wall, don't they?  Get your own heart decals here - in gold, yes, or in any other color you heart (teehee) desires and spread the love all over.

Have you seen this adorable nursery at The Beetle Shack?  Oh my goodness. I'm loving everything about it.  And those bees!  We created our own bee decals so you too could add a little of that adorable to your own walls.

Fun fact - this pattern (the plus signs), very much on trend with modern and Scandinavian design, is called the Swiss Cross - probably inspired by the Swiss flag - and is "one of the most popular patterns in design today" (so declares Apartment Therapy's Taryn Fiol).  We're seeing it most often in textiles - rugs, bedding, pillows, etc.  In fact, that's where I first saw it - in a wool blanket on a Finnish design blog (sure I couldn't read a word, but my goodness the photos!).  We thought these would be perfect on the wall (Pinterest does too, by the by) and so we've created Swiss Cross decals to help you add a little easy modern European style to your home.

Hexagons are the perfect complement to this adorably modern little room and I'm seeing them in the coolest places (like on washing machines! and gold in entryways - gold is such a thing these days, eh?).  A little geometric love goes a long way.  Get your own hexagon decals here and you know, go wild.

On Trend: Gold Polkadot Walls

by Raelene

Ah, polkadots.  You just gotta love 'em, right?  Sure, they're sweet and retro and cute, but I'm loving how grown up and modern and chic they are these days too.  It seems like the consensus in the blogosphere is that the best way to make polkadots glamorous is to make them gold.

Of course we've got polkadot vinyl decals in the shop.  And of course you can buy them in any of the 42 colors we've got in stock.  But I'm crushing on the gold polkadots most of all and so today I thought I'd round up some of my favorite seriously chic gold polkadot walls from all over the interwebs and show off a couple of our own while I was at it.

You'll be so inspired, you'll want to click over to the shop and get your own set post-haste.  For Christmas, for fun, for glam, for whatever.  Either way, I bet a little gold polkadot magic'll inspire some serious happy in your space too.

Megan from The Homes I Have Made, did an awesome DIY project with gold contact paper to glam up her craft area.  So easy, so worth it.

Laura Bateman Reif's Washington D.C. Home #theeverygirl
And boy, speaking of glam, have you seen these photos of Laura Reif Bateman's home at The Everygirl?  Every room is fabulous and she uses gold as an accent almost everywhere.  Uber chic.  And yes, even gold polkadot walls!

Gold Polka Dot Walls in Guest Bathroom
Gold polkadots are the perfect accent in a small bathroom, wouldn't you say?  This home, featured on Apartment Therapy, proves that little dots can make a big impact in just a small space.

Love the dotty wall
See what I mean?  I love how the gold polkadots and rustic elements come together in this little bathroom nook featured on A Beautiful Mess.  Cozy happiness, is what it is.

Look how perfectly gold polkadots complement the shabby chic/cottage vibe with the pretty pastels and delicate details in this lovely living room.  Technically, this post by the gals at House of Smiths was all about Christmas decor and of course gold polkadots make perfect Christmas decor - but doesn't it look great for every day too?  Seriously love this look.

And gee, we couldn't resist the chance to glam up our own spaces.  Linda added a little gold polkadot magic to her nursery.  I love the cascading pattern down the wall - it's the perfect touch of modern and off-beat and yet fits so well with the other traditional elements in the room like the crib and the quilts.

There you have it, gold polkadot walls.  What's not to love.  Head over to the shop and pick up a set of your own polkadot decals - 152 1" polkadots for $22.95 (way easier than trying the DIY version and at a price that makes it worthwhile).  If 1" is a little small for ya, no worries.  We've got several other sizes to choose from, or you can always order custom.  We love custom requests!  Happy polkadoting, folks.

Hot Off The Press 9-26-2014

by Raelene

We seem to be rolling out new designs every few weeks, but don't always get the chance to showcase them, so we're starting a new series: Hot Off The Press.  We want to show off the newest designs we've got in the shop and we know you'll love 'em.

Today, because we posted about using arrows in home decor earlier this week, I thought I'd round up some of our newest designs featuring arrows.  Some are whimsical, some modern, some rustic - but all really really cool.

Everyone Is Important WallQuotes™ Decal
'Cause really - who doesn't love Dr. Who?

I Am The Optimist WallQuotes™ Decal
Such a great affirmation - and perfect in the home office or a crafting space like this one.  It's got just the right statement with just the right kind of funky and whimsical design elements.

It's like "get 'r done," but prettified (grin).  I've got this one in my office 'cause some days I just need a little extra umph, and this pretty little decal does it for me every time.

Go Your Own Way WallQuotes™ Decal
Wouldn't this be so great in a little boy's room?  It'd be perfect on the wall next to a reading tent/fort like this one, or this one.

Hearts & Arrows Wall Art Decal
How's this for simple and sweet, eh?  I'd love it over a console table or a toddler girl's bed.  In White or Blush, and paired with sweet feminine and flowery accents like the ones all over in this bedroom, it'd be the perfect finishing touch).

There are more arrows designs on the site too.  Come check us out - you'll find something perfect to spice up whatever space needs a little love in your home.

More Headboards: Branches

Branches and birds, trees and nests - they're all the rage. We recently helped Megan, with BonBonRose Girls, design a few birch branches for a DIY project she had in mind for above the bed in her master bedroom.
Didn't it turn out great? See her full post here for all the details.

November Customer Photo Winner

Amy sent in a great before/after series to show the impact and 'wow factor' that the World Traveller Landmarks wall art added above the French doors to her patio. This design features a mural of over a dozen of the world's most-loved and recognized landmarks - from the Taj Mahal and Big Ben to the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.

Before: It's a great space, it just needed a little something...

After: ...and, wow! This is such a great example of how something so simple - and so easy! - can make such a big difference in a space. Thanks for sharing, Amy! She'll get a $50.00 gift certificate to use for a little more wow factor (grin).

Remember to send in your photos for a chance to win; we choose a winner every month (even if we don't always post on time - I blame it on the baby, ha!)

What if I have to move? Part II

To recap: vinyl designs, wall quotes and vinyl wall art can all be very easily applied to a variety of move-friendly items. For example...

Example One: canvas. You can buy inexpensive stretched canvas frames at any local craft store. Paint them with a color that coordinates with your decor and apply the vinyl designs (like Jamie did in the photo below). Presto - instant fancy wall art that can move with you.

Example Two: picture frames or shadow boxes. Vinyl wall art sticks exceptionally well to glass and makes a beautiful framed piece in an empty frame, or include a piece of fancy scrapbook paper in the back of the frame and wahoo - uber fancy wall art that, you guessed it, can move with you. Also - this makes a spectacular gift (particularly for a wedding).

Example Three: painted boards. These are very popular and I'm sure you've see them all over. You can make your own for the most personalized look and, the best thing about it is that - wait for it - it can move with you. Or, just move it to a new spot in the house (kind of like rearranging furniture) for a new look somewhere else.

Example Three A: try something totally cool like this customer did and adhere the lettering to driftwood. Way-cool custom wall art and yep, it can move with you.

Example Four: beer mugs/coffee cups/glasses. My husband loves these (though I can't promise that every husband will feel the same... mine has a particular affinity for great design...) and breaks them out for all occasions. Glass of water, anyone? Mug of soda? How about we put hot chocolate in those babies? And guess what - those mugs can move with you.

We've used vinyl lettering on tiles and trays and mirrors and toy chests and canisters and crates and jars and binders and laptops and fridges (you usually move those with you, right?) and well, you get the idea. There are all kinds of possibilities. Have you applied your vinyl wall art to any move-friendly items lately? Care to share?

What if I have to move? Part I

Our vinyl wall quotes and designs are beautiful. No doubt about it. And if you've had one on your wall and love love love it - it'll make it that much harder to part with if you have to move (I know, I've been there). But there is good news.

First - the designs are easily removable (so renters, you can get your deposit back intact!). Just use your fingernail to get under the very edge and peel away. Sometimes it might help to warm the adhesive slightly with a blow dryer - this will make the peeling even easier. It shouldn't leave a residue and definitely will not hurt the paint or finish of the wall (or other surface). If there's just a bit of sticky left from the adhesive, just wipe it with a damp cloth and mild cleaner and you'll be set to go.

Second - the designs are quite affordable. So save your grocery money or put a little aside and you can get the same design for your new home - or splurge and get something entirely different. But watch out - there are so many great designs to choose from, it'll be hard to pick just one (you can always add one in every room...)

Third - the designs can be easily applied to move-friendly items. Need a few ideas? See Part II for a full gamut of move-friendly items.

DIY Nursery Art

Just three simple custom vinyl letters took this nursery from cute to absolutely fabulous.
