Karen worked with our Design Team to create some custom decals around the office and they turned out amazing! We just had to share.

This is a quote that is often used around the office and we worked with Karen to get it just right for the lobby.

To the left, you can see a custom Churchill quote and in front one of our popular quotes: Do What You Cannot Wall Quotes™ Decal. This one is in Lemon and Black and is 14 inches by 32 inches.

Act as though it is impossible to fail is perfect above these office doors. I think you will see this quote in our store soon!

This is another of our most popular quotes, but we switched out the font and the arrangement for Karen to better fit the large wall she has in this conference room.

Your Mission Statement Should Make an Impact

Company Mission Statements are meant to be seen! Why not add yours front and center. Not only does it look amazing, but it reminds employees while showing customers exactly what your company stands for.

We worked on this custom mission statement for Marquette University and it makes the perfect impact. This decal was done in Buttercream and Ice Blue and really pops against their Navy wall. 

While working on the Mission Statement, they also wanted some other quotes to go around the office. We just love the ones they have chosen.

 The Meaning Behind the Meaning

Famous quotations come from all sorts of places, people, and circumstances and cover all kinds of topics and issues. We use them to pick ourselves, to motivate ourselves and others, to express our deepest feelings and best ideas, and to prove a point. Familiar quotes often become mantras we follow for the rest of our lives. They can be powerful and inspiring, moving and motivating. But what is it about them that makes them so reflective of us and our values?

Homonymic Phrases

Homonyms are words with similar pronunciation, but very different meanings (think stalk or left, for example).  A homonymic phrase then is a saying that relies on the double-meaning of an idea or word that then elicits a strong response (often like the punch line of a joke). For example, one of our Office Wall Quotes designs uses this text: “The only place where success comes before work is in a dictionary.” This phrase inspires because it is accurate on multiple levels; success certainly does come before work, “s” definitely occurs before “w” in the dictionary, and no one can be truly successful at anything if they don’t put in the work first. Because these kinds of quotes are a play on words, they stick with us.  And because they also ring true to our known values and ideas, we feel we can apply it to ourselves, creating self-efficacy, or our belief in our own ability to succeed. This also contributes to the quote’s “staying power” and why we continue to remember it.

The Coaching Factor

Sometimes phrases are structured as instructions with a heavy use of verbs. This is especially the case for many of our Sports Wall Quotes designs. When a trainer coaches a team or an individual, he issues commands over and over to push them and to remind them of their goals and the victory that awaits them if they’ll work hard for it. Quotes like “Work. Sweat. Achieve.” and “Don’t limit your challenges, challenge your limits” work because they mimic the coaching experience with strong, imperative verbs.

 

Primal Instinct Resonation

We humans are aspirational creatures. We want to be the best at what we do and we choose role models and leaders among those who are the best at what they do. Quotes that come from great political leaders and sports figures hold a lot of weight because of their experience.  Their accomplishments and experience have earned them the right to offer advice. Additionally, phrases and sayings attributed to someone with a recognizable name resonates more with us than those that don’t. Election season is upon us; whoever you may be inclined to vote for, it's always inspiring to look back on past presidential wisdom and insight. Here’s a reminder of just how inspiring our team of presidents have been:

“Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.” –John F. Kennedy

JFK uttered these words in the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 1961. Timeless, these words ring true for anyone who reads them; in every generation lives mindless conformism, deterring free thought and revolution. It is important in these circumstances for us to not be complacent to our environment and seek internal and external change.

“You lose.” –Calvin Coolidge

Notoriously introverted, Coolidge would often be called “Silent Cal” for being adverse to small talk. A legend of sorts is that a woman reached out to Coolidge at a dinner party stating she made a bet that she could get him to speak more than two words, this particular quote being his infamous response.

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” –Theodore Roosevelt

Arguably the most quotable man, Roosevelt didn’t kid around when it came to confidence. I mean, how can you not trust the words of a man who won a Nobel Peace Prize? It’s no wonder everyone always throws around “fake it ‘til you make it’; that seems like Teddy’s mantra!

“Tell the truth, work hard, and come to dinner on time.” Gerald R. Ford

The most moving of quotes come from the humblest of places—Ford had a short term, but he served as an honorable, albeit modest, president.

John Quincy, a diplomat and a consistent advocate against slavery, had strong opinions but an even stronger determination to act for what he believed in. Change is prompted by desire to act.

Wow, what a great month!  We had so many entries this month and it was so hard to choose.  A lot of great quotes and creativity.  Congratulations to Grace for her outstanding usage of her Wall Quotes™ decal.  You can utilize any space imaginable.  What a great place to showcase this.  

Each step is a reminder of always moving forward and what it leads too. This would be great in a school, gym or any sports facility.  The commitment and drive that we see in our youth and athletes is so inspiring.
