October 2018 Customer Photo Winner

We just love a great quote (I mean it's kind of what we do) in a great space - and Kimberly's is amazing! I mean the light fixture on the wood base and those chairs and the sconces - I could go on. But, the custom decal we worked on just for her is a perfect centerpiece to it all!

For reference her decal came to 17" tall x 54" wide and is the perfect size for her large space. We are always happy to work on custom designs and within the spaces you have available!

November 2016 Customer Photo Winner!

Maria liked our Grateful Thankful Blessed decal, but wanted to add her own twist to it! So, we switched out the wreath and added her family name to it and sent it off. When she sent us this photo I was blown away!!! She got the decal in Black and I just had to know how she did it - so I asked! See her process below:

Glad you like my project, I am not sure what the process is called - but this is what I did:
1.  Paint the wood the color you want your letters, let it dry
2.  Stick your vinyl letters on the wood
3.  Paint the wood the color you want the board (even on top of the vinyl letters) let it dry
4.  Peel the vinyl letters off
5.  Seal the wood with a light wood stain

Doesn't this look amazing! I love seeing our customers use our designs in non-typical ways.

Why Do Quotes Inspire or Motivate Us?

 The Meaning Behind the Meaning

Famous quotations come from all sorts of places, people, and circumstances and cover all kinds of topics and issues. We use them to pick ourselves, to motivate ourselves and others, to express our deepest feelings and best ideas, and to prove a point. Familiar quotes often become mantras we follow for the rest of our lives. They can be powerful and inspiring, moving and motivating. But what is it about them that makes them so reflective of us and our values?

Homonymic Phrases
Homonyms are words with similar pronunciation, but very different meanings (think stalk or left, for example).  A homonymic phrase then is a saying that relies on the double-meaning of an idea or word that then elicits a strong response (often like the punch line of a joke). For example, one of our Office Wall Quotes designs uses this text: “The only place where success comes before work is in a dictionary.” This phrase inspires because it is accurate on multiple levels; success certainly does come before work, “s” definitely occurs before “w” in the dictionary, and no one can be truly successful at anything if they don’t put in the work first. Because these kinds of quotes are a play on words, they stick with us.  And because they also ring true to our known values and ideas, we feel we can apply it to ourselves, creating self-efficacy, or our belief in our own ability to succeed. This also contributes to the quote’s “staying power” and why we continue to remember it.

The Coaching Factor
Sometimes phrases are structured as instructions with a heavy use of verbs. This is especially the case for many of our Sports Wall Quotes designs. When a trainer coaches a team or an individual, he issues commands over and over to push them and to remind them of their goals and the victory that awaits them if they’ll work hard for it. Quotes like “Work. Sweat. Achieve.” and “Don’t limit your challenges, challenge your limits” work because they mimic the coaching experience with strong, imperative verbs.

Primal Instinct Resonation
We humans are aspirational creatures. We want to be the best at what we do and we choose role models and leaders among those who are the best at what they do. Quotes that come from great political leaders and sports figures hold a lot of weight because of their experience.  Their accomplishments and experience have earned them the right to offer advice. Additionally, phrases and sayings attributed to someone with a recognizable name resonates more with us than those that don’t. One of our Sports Wall Quotes designs, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” is pretty inspiring on its own, but it’s even more powerful because it is Wayne Gretzky, an NHL hall of famer, who said it.

Whether it be in a corporate boardroom, kids’ bedroom wall, kitchen, or living room, quotes can motivate and change how we think and how we see the world around us. Vinyl wall decals are one of the very best ways to display those quotes that mean the most to you and your family. They’re affordable, easy to install, and offer a big impact in any room. Choose from our well-curated collections, or design your very own quote at wallquotes.com.

... and I'm so EXCITED to be sharing here today!
I just LOVE the endless ideas over at Belvedere Designs and
I knew that they'd have a solution for my daughter's room...

My middle daughter always has bits and pieces of things that seem to collect in piles all over her desk.
Works of art...the latest photos...newspaper clippings...notes from friends...etc.
If you have a child...you know what I'm talking about!
So with the help of Belvedere Designs, I came up with a fun way to display some of this randomness!

Customize a Mantel

The mantel of a fireplace is definitely (definitely) the main focal point of the room and acts as a visual achor to bring all the elements of a room together. Details like architectural molding, crisp colors or warm wood tones, and a little something extra all contribute to make that visual anchor a fabulous detail of the room.
Check out this custom vinyl wall art piece we did recently. Even though it's small (about 2" tall x 36" wide), it stands out beautifully on that bright white molding around the fireplace and is an exceptional detail for this room's beautiful focal point.

Interior Design Tip: Choosing a Focal Point

I love HGTV. (I mean really love it) One of my favorite things to watch for is how each designer chooses a focal point for the room and then builds the design, the look, the feel, the textures and colors and accessories of the entire room around that focal point.

Sometimes it's an architectural feature - like a fireplace or a huge window. Other times it's a picture, a mirror or a dramatic piece of furniture. But it's always something interesting to look at, something colorful or texturally and visually appealing.

The best, most inviting rooms have fabulous focal points. And you know - there are all kinds of great designs from our collections that work wonders as focal points in any room.

This design will set the tone in the bedroom - elegant, romantic, classy - a real retreat from the hectic day-to-day and a reminder of what, at the end of the day, is truly most important.

In the family room or great room, this design sets a warm, welcome tone. Come, play - be a part of the family. We're here for each other - through thick and thin.
For your entryway - something fancy, traditional and eye-catching. This here, this home, this is where it's happenin'. This is real life.

And, of course, you can always design your own wall quote. Holly used a favorite Bible verse, highlighted important words with a contrasting font, add a few accessories and we've got a work of art - a beautiful, strong focal point for a lovely, comfortable room.
