Cutting Board Revamp Tutorial

Carrie here, founder of lifestyle and DIY blog, Dream Green DIY. I have to tell you up front - I'm now officially obsessed with Wall Quotes™ decals. Not that I wasn't before, but prior to this project, I didn't realize that decals could go beyond the wall. The possibilities truly are endless! I'm jumping the gun though...Let me start from the beginning.

Prior to the holiday madness, I managed to snag a little gift just for me - a pretty wooden cutting board from Target's Threshold collection. Truth be told, I wasn't a big fan of the plain clear finish, but a quick day dream of the wood in a rich walnut stain was too much to ignore, so into my cart it went.
Almost as soon as I got home, I had my hand sander out and the top coat blasted into the past, thereby prepping the wood to take a couple coats of my favorite dark stain. A little bit of chocolatey brown, a subtle gray undertone - It was perfect, but definitely missing something.

Alas, the pretty-but-still-plain cutting board was placed gently in my crafting closet, where it would have to wait for inspiration to strike. Several months later, it came thanks to a conversation with a fellow DIYer, who happily explained all of the happy merits of wall decals. Did I know they could go on more than just drywall? Did I know that Belvedere Designs took custom orders?
It didn't take long for me to snatch my cutting board from No Man's Craft Land, and then I found myself shooting my vision over to the Belevedere rep - Jessica was a dream, and helped me craft the perfect cursive lettering from my font of choice, Katie Rose.

After following the instructions that came with my precut, three-word quote, it was done and it was perfect. A throwback phrase done in simple, sweet lettering was all my refinished cutting board needed. Now it's my favorite way to serve special cookies and treats at home.

Thanks to Belvedere Designs for making this fully customized project both easy and affordable - Two of my very favorite words...

  1. This is a very nice stain .. may I ask what stain you used? I was thinking of using it on a really large board.
